Hey all,
Did a couple of surveys starting late today around 5:05 pm-
I knew there had to be nests of both species close by after seeing prs
hanging close by in the past week at the electric substation on La 71 near
Red River South Marina in south Bossier City. Both nests have been well
concealed low over brackets this season- but finally found them- no more
than 30' apart.
Did a shorebird survey on the big pond at White House Plantation in Elm
Grove. Best bird was an adult (prob female- looked big/ longish-billed)
Western Sandpiper. Another neat thing was close study between a very pale
and warm-throated older juv Cliff swallow vs a younger juv cave Swallow.
Missed quite a few things found in prev survey but did get an ad and sy
LBHE, then 3 Least Tern, including 2 juv. Killdeer nos still high. Mostly
ad were seen. Had 8 Scissortailed Fly over 1 during previous count- most
local prs, merely missed during previous survey. Another interesting note
was a Great Horned Owl giving the raspy-type call at north end of the
survey area just before leaving, then an adult sitting on a pole in the
open over cultivated field in broad daylight .2 miles south of White House
Plantation rd. Pictures of the breeding flycatchers, Western Sandpiper,
swallows and more coming later.
