Hi all, It was a rather good day atRed River National Wildlife Refuge- Bayou Pierre Unit- Yates Tract, today! Red River NWR--Bayou Pierre Unit Yates Tract, Red River, US-LA May 18, 2013 6:35 AM - 12:35 PM Protocol: Traveling 5.5 mile(s) Comments: Birded with Jeff Trahan and Charlie Lyon. Arrived early, therefore surveyed usual/ former route beginning at 409 and 1. We were very happy birders to finally get a definite GLOSSY IBIS for N- w La.!! We observed closely through scopes and Jeff and Charlie both got excellent pics. Other goodies were assorted shorebirds, Willow and Alder Flycatcher (latter much harder to find in Spring than fall), Bell's Vireo and American Goldfinch. Around 1:30 this afternoon, I also had a sy male and female Magnolia Wa, sy male Chestnut-sided and an odd and incessantly-singing sy male American Redstart with a black face and a few black body blotches, but otherwise retaining juvenile plumage, all foraging in two large and side-by-side pecans behind my apt in Bossier City La.
