BIRD STUDY GROUP Tom, I doubt that the migrants are coming "later". I figure that they just basically skirted around Louisiana or staged in areas where birders don't bird. I don't keep up with listservs east/west of Louisiana. I'm not so sure that birds may not just spread out such that they aren't conspicuous and as soon as the winds are favorable, spring up and cross the Gulf. I don't think there are any radar systems that pick up fall migration - north to south across the Gulf - the way they pick up incoming birds in the Spring. Howsomeever, I seem to recall seeing radar images from Cape May involving fall migration. Mike, Steve, Terry might have some thoughts on this? I don't know due to lack of experience with seasonal birding in LA. Just this week I had 4 Eastern Bluebirds in the yard- haven't seen a Bluebird in the yard since May. I had 4 White-crowned Sparrows in town (Pollock,LA) and one first winter White-crowned in my backyard (new yard bird). Then today, just about 15 minutes ago, I had a Rose-breasted Grosbeak on the feeder. Nice surprise :) Tom Pollock Pollock, LA Grant Parish On Oct 17, 2013 7:14 PM, "Jay V Huner" <jvh0660@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > After stopping at Oak Ridge Park, I went south to Converse Park, about 10 miles below, Oak Ridge Park. Site is an ebird hotspot and included in the Lane's Guide, if memory is correct.
