Jeff and I found some new arrivals today. Some of the better ones were 2 Mourning Warbler, 2 Wilson's Warbler, Black-bellied Plover and Semipalmated and Western Sandpiper- also 3 tern spp. The single Field Sparrow was still giving incessant partial song near the cememery, Bell's Vireo singing incessantly there. Brown Thrasher 3 small gp near cemetery European Starling 10 1 farmhouse, 9 n over units (the latter slightly odd) Northern Waterthrush 4 as 1,2,1 barn pond and units Mourning Warbler 2 FOS- ad female in grape covered thicket surrounded by willows, box elder maple, rl-dogwoods and green ash on west end of barn pond, ad male in lone persimmon to ne of levee just east of levee bend, also observed moving through surrounding giant ragweed, Johnson grass and Brazilian vervain. Kentucky Warbler 1 h.o. chip-series again at levee bend Common Yellowthroat 10 second noted increase- about 50/50% call or female/hy and song by males. Yellow Warbler 6 2,2,1,1. All seen were female. Observed in g ragweed, hackberry- female observed eating ripe fruit, g ragweed and pecan Wilson's Warbler 2 FOS- 1 well-capped indiv, but with blurry edges noted especially to rear- prob hym?- in hackberry on west end of barn pond ( near f MOWA), another similarly-plumaged indiv at levee bend/airstrip in Baccharis. Yellow-breasted Chat 8 All singles but 2 at Cemetery area- several seen, most giving "tocking"-series- 1 giving brief song along levee just n of house. Most in grape-covered thickets and shrubby growth Eastern Towhee 6 3 in thickets at levee bend (2 call, 1 song) 3 cemetery (2 call, 1 song) Field Sparrow 1 Chipping and giving shorter versions of song- less rising/fast trill at end- same location as previously- second growth with much grass and few vines Summer Tanager 1 401 by call Northern Cardinal 30 Blue Grosbeak 3 1c,1f,1f Indigo Bunting 39 most in Johnson grass, also in moist soil area, gps of 2-6, foraging along e/se- "extravagant" flight-type song by 1 male Dickcissel 7 Several calling singles overhead and scattered singles low Red-winged Blackbird 26 20 in 7- quite a few males included, 6 fem in 6.
