Hi all, After talking with a few interested parties that had prior commitments, I decided to show up at the launch anyway- in case someone wanted to go. No one showed so I decided to run South to Elm Grove to survey they White House Plantation pond. Best birds there were- Gadwall- 3. M and f on the N end of big pond, then f on oxbow. All looked very healthy. Obtained photos. Not sure if flight-capable N Shoveler- m associating with the 2 GADW- also looked very healthy but not sure if f-c- also photo'd LESSER SCAUP- flight capable female on S end of pond. Luckily got photos before rose and quickly flew toward N end. White-winged Dove- 1. Photos. Blackshire Jr says they are seeing more and more now. Had a first for BCBCBC last winter Also got full frame shots of one of two med-small coyote pups through the windshield. Biggest misses here were TRHE, GRHE, PBGR. The rest can be seen (notes not too bad) at: http://ebird.org/ebird/la/view/checklist?subID=S18875866 I left Elm Grove area, then drove S looking at other water holes along the Red for more water birds, then turned East on Atkins-Clark 2 miles to it's sharp curve N. I began there in search of Bell's Vireo and put 1 hr 10 mins in Bossier Point quad doing short point counts while driving 2.6 miles ~N. The habitat has looked great there for many years for BEVI but the succession has now surpassed the shrubbier type where they're usually found. Consolation bird there was Northern Bobwhite. Biggest miss was White-eyed Vireo. A short list with very few notes at- http://ebird.org/ebird/la/view/checklist?subID=S18876226 Y'alll have a good one! (: Terry
