Hi fellow birders, Hubert Hervey and I made the best of dawn chorus and
point counts starting early on the W side of Converse quad in Southern
DeSoto, then mostly Sabine Par. Scarce did I think we'd manage it, yet we
added 6 new species to the quad- with high counts and multiple locations of
a few. Almost zero traffic and nothing but continuous, quiet dirt
back-roads were a big help in our quest. The quad now has 10 hours.
Highlights/ new species of an ultra-modest 48 for the quad for today were:

Northern Bobwhite- 7- including groups of 2,2,1,1,1

American Kestrel- 1 fem

Hairy Woodpecker- 3= 1,1,1

Brown-headed Nuthatch- 3= 2,1

Worm-eating Warbler- 2= 1,1

Swainson's Warbler- 4= 1,2,1

2 sep pairs of NOFL "squaring off" in road was cool

"Lowlights" were-

Continuing low detection rates of CACH-  2= as 1,1

American Crow- 6

Leaving there, we took a wrong turn on a dead end road off Old Camp Rd
while on our way back toward Converse/ La171 at La174, which put us maybe
10 minutes late getting to Belmont quad to the S. We still did really well
for the morning, which had already become very warm by our arrival.
Highlights/ best notes of 48 spp and 2.5 hours of survey time there were:

Northern Bobwhite- 2= 1,1 La 120 and Cord Arm

Broad-winged Hawk- 1= Bayou Scie at La 120

American Robin- 1= Ad flyover at La 120/ pasture

Gray Catbird- 3= Single group on Ham. An Acadian Flycatcher in a grassy,
dense young pine thicket was interesting habitat note, too. I've seen them
like this before but not frequently. Four Brown Thrasher within a mile or
so of this area was good

"Lowlights" were-

American Crow- 2= 1,1.
