Hey everyone, I ran my old Mooringsport route (somewhat) today starting
with and completing nearly the entire run owling and in search of
Caprimulgids. I then continued north to Sentell rd area, birded there and
finally ended in early afternoon with a quick run of the ponds along La 71
near Dixie. Nothing crazy-good but did have high numbers of some, such as
14 Eastern Screech-Owl, 12 Red-eyed Vireo and 23 Hooded Warbler. I had 88
species for a rained-out day- not too bad. I didn't think the Redhead and
Ruddy Ducks were especially late but they've been there since winter.
They'll likely be there if someone needs a later date- especially after the
frontal system. Just enter I-49 on the northeast on-ramp, then go .92 miles
(from entrance onto on-ramp) north and the pond will begin showing on your
right (e) side. A big portion of the warblers found this morning can be
re-found with my instructions in the Mooringsport list. Just in case, most
were found within ~.75 n, then ~2 mi s of Barnette on La 538 near
Mooringsport- but be very careful- the shoulders are often steep and also
boggy when wet and there are few pull-offs. Here's my three lists from the
aforementioned areas birded today.
