[Bristol-Birds] kids see the darndest things

     Late this morning, some of Ms. Holly Johnson’s fifth grade class from 
Mountain View Elementary School in Johnson City, TN were on a nature walk with 
me learning to use binoculars.  They saw many things, but the best sighting of 
the day came when they spotted an adult Bald Eagle, which soared for several 
minutes over the 4-H Center in full sunlight, affording a good view to all with 
binoculars, and to some others without binoculars that were canoeing nearby.
     The following is the list of animals observed by various groups of 
children and myself throughout the day:

Sharp-shinned Hawk (mobbed by Tree Swallows)

Northern Flicker
Red-bellied Woodpecker (harassed near cavity by Downy Woodpecker)

Red-headed Woodpecker (heard calling and drumming)
Eastern Kingbird
Tree Swallow (including a pair playing with a feather)

American Crow
Blue Jay
Eastern Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Wren
American Robin
Eastern Bluebird
Northern Mockingbird
Brown Thrasher
European Starling
American Pipit
Common Yellowthroat
Northern Cardinal
Chipping Sparrow
