A birder sent a message and asked if any of the Bald Eagles hacked and
released with the green and orange wing tags at South Holston Lake during
the hacking project near Little Oak Campground had ever been seen or found
since then. The answer is yes. Here is a list of each one eventually seen
with their tags or found injured or dead:

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 17 Sep 1991 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); found emaciated near Covington, KY 29 Sep 1991.

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 20 Jul 1992 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); observed from helicopter near Marietta, OH mid-Aug
1992 by Ohio Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist. The
biologist
saw the bird flying below their helicopter which was conducting a creel
survey along
a river and he used a pair of binoculars to read the wing tag.

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 20 Jul 1992 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); found 18 Oct 1992 with severe Avian Pox at Marion,
Smyth Co., VA but later released "OK".

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 12 Sep 1992 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); shot and killed at Waycross GA 28 Nov 1992 (shooter
    convicted).

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 2 Jul 1993 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); found dead at Lake Huron, MI Fall 1993.

by TWRA (hacked bird); found emaciated Cross City, northern Florida 3 Sep
   1993.

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 29 Jul 1994 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); observed 25 Aug 1994 at Long Island, NY landfill.

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 29 Jul 1994 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); observed feeding on roadkill rabbit 16 Sep 1994 at
                  Neadville, PA (Crawford Co.)

Bald Eagle wing tagged released 29 Jul 1994 South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., TN
by TWRA (hacked bird); euthanized at UT Veterinary Medicine School 4 Oct
2008
after being found earlier that day with a badly injured wing on English
Mountain near
Dandridge, TN, 84 miles south of South Holston Lake. It had been in the
wild for 14 years.
The bird had been financed by Bob Quillen and fellow employees of the
Virginia Department
of Transportation. The fund raising project was created and led by Bristol
Bird Club members.
This is evidence that some of the eagles funded by the BBC project may still
be in the wild
in 2012 and breeding. That project raised money which paid for the release
of 29
hacked Bald Eagles at South Holston Lake during a three-year effort.
