An even earlier record from Sullivan Co., plus some subsequent records:

11 May 1974 on Kingsport spring count (1);
26-29 May 1979 at Boone Lake (1) - either Sullivan or Washington Co;
the aforementioned 1980 record;
3 May 1990 at Boone Lake (1) - either Sullivan or Washington Co;
15 Apr 1996 at South Holston Lake (1).

Of the now 31 records from NE Tenn., at least 18 have come from Washington Co.
and 7 have come from Carter Co. There are no records yet from Johnson or
Unicoi Cos.

firstSullivan)

A quick scan of the records indicates that the
first known Sullivan County record for the
Cattle Egret was 16 April 1980 by Dr. Gary
Wallace. The exact location is not readily
available. However, the Steele Creek Park
bird is the earliest summer record for
Northeast Tennessee as published in the
Birds of Northeast Tennessee, Knight, 2008,
2nd. The previous was 28 July, If anyone
has corrections or additions it would be
greatly appreciated.

Let's go birding. . . .
