On Saturday, May 10 (International Migratory Bird Day 2003) Howard Langridge, Elizabethton, and Bryan Stevens, Hampton, both of the Lee and Lois Herndon Chapter of TOS, led a bird walk at Sycamore Shoals State Park, Elizabethton. They were joined by park naturalist Jennifer Bauer and Fulton and Collette Cook, Elizabethton. They observed: 1. Yellow-crowned Night Heron (1) 2. Mallard (Hen with 11 Ducklings and also 3 drakes) 3. Canada Geese (4) 4. Mourning Dove 5. Rock Dove 6. Chimney Swift 7. Red-bellied Woodpecker 8. Tree Swallow 9. American Crow 10. Carolina Chickadee 11. Tufted Titmouse 12. Carolina Wren 13. Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 14. American Robin 15. Gray Catbird 16. Northern Mockingbird 17. Cedar Waxwings (flock of about a dozen) 18. European Starling 19. Red-eyed Vireo 20. Indigo Bunting 21. Northern Cardinal 22. Chipping Sparrow 23. Song Sparrow 24. Red-winged Blackbird 25. Common Grackle 26. Blue Jay 27. American Goldfinch 28. Eastern Kingbird After the walk, Bauer, Langridge and Stevens proceeded to the Carter Mansion, still part of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area. On the way: 29. Eastern Meadowlark 30.
