Area Birders, Migration has definitely started here on Compton Mt. in Buchanan County. The first TENNESSEE WARBLER came through on Monday, 8/22/05. This beat the early arrival record by two days. Thirty-nine avian species came through my yard yesterday with ten of those being warblers. The warbler species were CERULEAN, BLACK-AND-WHITE, BLACKBURNIAN, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLUE-WINGED, CHESTNUT-SIDED, HOODED, NORTHERN PARULA, TENNESSEE, WORM-EATING and YELLOW-THROATED. Some of the warblers are enjoying the small manmade stream that I created to flow into my yard pond. At one time on Monday There was a Blackburnian, a Blue-winged, a Black-and-white and a Tennessee in the stream at the same time. Following are links to some photos of the birds in and around the stream. The Blackburnian is especially striking in its bright colors. http://users.mikrotec.com/mayhorn/BIMG/Blkburn/BlkburnP1.htm http://users.mikrotec.com/mayhorn/BIMG/Bluwng/BluwngP1.htm http://users.mikrotec.com/mayhorn/BIMG/Blk&White/Blk&whiteP1.htm Enjoy the migration, Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt (near Grundy, VA) Buchanan County
