Bristol Birders, My Dad and I (Ed Talbott Jr. and III) along with Richard Kretz birded the logging road from Laurel Bed Lake to Mutter's Gap in Russell County on Saturday. The weather was overcast but it did not rain and the hike was around 7 miles at about 3,800 feet in elevation. We found four Least Flycatchers and six Magnolia Warblers during the hike. The biggest surprise of the day was the birds we did not find - we birded for almost 10 hours and did not see or hear a single Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Mourning Dove, European Starling, Northern Cardinal, or Downy Woodpecker. I'll probably never do that again in SW Virginia. For those interested here is a link to a couple pictures and a trip report for the VSO. http://www.grundynet.net/talbott/birding/hikes/2005/Foray1.htm Ed Talbott Grundy, VA Buchanan County Bird Club ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST Bristol Birds Net Photo Gallery located at: http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jwcoffeyy/album?.dir=/efd5 This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. -------------------------------------------------- You are subscribed to Bristol-Birds.
