[Bristol-Birds] Upper Douglas Pelicans, Grebes, Shorebirds

Cocke county, 3/22/14
Douglas Lake elevation: 962 ft and rising.  Taylor Bend sandbar is now 
underwater.

The Rankin WMA has posted 800 additional acres of floodplain and highlands, 
from the flats across from the Nolichucky over to Ten Islands.  Roads in the 
WMA have been graded and graveled.  The road past the coal tower is much 
improved.

Rankin Bottoms:  (The grebes were diving across from the Leadvale boat ramp, 
undeterred by the fishing traffic.)

  Wood Duck (7)
  Red-necked Grebe (2)
  Am. Coot
  Great Blue Heron (8 active nests near Rankin Bridge)
  Northern Harrier
  Bald Eagle (4)
  Osprey (5)

  Bonaparte's Gull
  Tree Swallow (15)

Dutch Bottoms:
  Northern Shoveler
  Green-winged Teal (5)
  Red-tailed Hawk
  Osprey (7, 3 pairs on nests)
  Dunlin (18)
  Pectoral Sandpiper 
  Least Sandpiper (6)

Taylor Bend (Jefferson county):
  Double-crested Cormorant (60)
  Am. White Pelican (6)
