The Herndon Bird Club under the leadership of Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud will have a field trip this SATURDAY, October 2, to the Big Bald Banding Station. Meet at the U.S. Forest Service Station in Unicoi at 7:30 a.m. and bring a lunch. There is an uphill hike of a half-mile or so from the car-parking spot to the banding station. If you plan to go, call Joe at 423-743-0065 to let him know if you plan to go--he needs to know ahead of time of people who plan to attend. The regular monthly meeting of the Herndon Club for October will be TUESDAY, October 5, at the Science Building (usual spot) at Milligan College at 7 p.m. Agenda will include discussion of the calendar preparation. The presentation will be given by Don Miller of Greenville on Shore Bird Identification. Some club members will meet for dinner and socializing prior to the meeting at 5:30 p.m. at Bellicino's on South Roan St. (back of the Food City Parking Lot) in Johnson City. All are invited and welcome to join us for dinner and the meeting. Each SATURDAY in October, there will be a field trip in the Sycamore Shoals area, starting in the Sycamore Shoals parking lot area at 8:00 a.m. These typically last two hours. The first three will be led by Bryan Stevens--leaders for the later trips are yet to be decided. Usually warblers are among the primary target birds for the first three weeks and sparrows are the primary target birds for the last two weeks, although a wide variety of species are normally seen. All, especially beginning birders, are invited. Roy Knispel, Pres. Lee & Lois Herndon Chapter of TOS Phone: 423-202-7802
