Glade Spring CBC Report-December 27, 2018

The Glade Spring CBC was held on Wednesday, December 27, 2018. The weather was relatively mild with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. The morning low was 31 degrees, and the high was 48. A slight morning breeze changed to a light-to-moderate (10-15 mph out of the SE) wind in the afternoon as a front starting moving in the area.

Twenty-three participants counted *63 species and 6,696 individual birds*(compared to last year's 71 species and 6,891 individual birds). One new species, *Common Loon*, was found on a private pond just off Old Saltworks Road (Route 745) near the intersection with Route 80. *Six*C*ommon Mergansers, *a new count circle high, were found on the North Fork, Holston River. (One was found in that same river last year for the first time). Other highlights include *48 Red-tailed Hawks-*a new high count*, **10 Hairy Woodpeckers-*tying the record high, and *3 Palm Warblers, *another a new high count. Also had a high count for *Wood Ducks(7). *Other notable finds include *Swamp Sparrow, Brown Creeper, Brown Thrasher, Loggerhead Shrike, Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, E. Collard-dove, and Common Grackle. *
