Mike Sanders and I searched the river channels on both sides of Osceola Island for about 30 minutes just before dark this evening to attempt to located Gail Williams' sub-adult White Ibis. We did not locate the ibis or geese. Mike walked the trail on the far side and carried his scope. I searched the main front side channel from the road bridge to the discharge gates at the dam. When we arrived, TVA had begun to generate and the cold water of the river flow was starting to raise a low fog over the surface. The bird may still be in the area Thursday. Thanks for the post, Gail. Let's go birding. . . . . There was a bird with the geese on the far side of the island, the stretch between the two bridges. Had a long, light orange bill, very curved, orange extending to eye but not solid bright orange, was a bit tan in places. The rest of face and neck was gray, some slight striping or dotting. The back was dark grey to black –very sleek looking and the under tail and abdomen was white. Long legs- looked white for most part, but could have had a bit of yellow lower, closer to feet. Legs were definitely not orange or dark. Thought it might be immature white ibis but the legs are throwing me. Ideas? Thanks, Gail Williams Bristol
