This afternoon I was driving on state route 80 in Russell County Virginia
between Honaker and Rosedale when I saw two large soaring birds that I
thought might be eagles. The two birds were interacting and seemed to be
playing a game of "chicken". I stopped the car and got out my binoculars.
I had the good fortune to see that I was viewing both a bald and golden
eagle. The two birds came within fifty yards of me before we all parted
company. It doesn't get much better than that but today was somewhat over
the top. Saw six deer in downtown Abingdon not far from Main Street (not
necessarily a good thing) and then had the opportunity to hear Lutheran
pastor, Nadia Bolz-Weber, give an uplifting talk at Central Presbyterian
Church in Bristol, Virginia. A memorable day. Ed Morgan, Abingdon, VA
