Area Birders, My wife, Lynda, and I made it down to Bristol yesterday and got great views of the Trumpeter Swan at the park on highway 394. Our thanks to Bill Grigsby for his directions. Just as it was when Bill was there the swan was at the small pond just to the right after entering the park. It was sitting with its head down, resting. We drove right by it without seeing it. We then ran into the Newmans and their guests at the larger pond, and they directed us back to the swan. When a vehicle would drive by the swan would raise its head and look around. It finally got up and began feeding in the pond. The wind was cutting and the temperature was 23 F. When we left about 3:30 the Trumpeter was still feeding, but according to Kevin Hamed, who dropped by, it usually flies back to the larger pond around 4:00. This bird was definitely worth the trip down. Enjoy the birds, Roger Mayhorn Grundy, VA ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
