Area Birders:

I observed a Tree Swallow today (2/26) at Middlebrook Lake in Bristol,
Sullivan Co., Tennssee.

As far as I know this is the earliest record for the species in Northeast
Tennessee.

The earliest Southwest Virginia record I am aware of is 25 Feb. 1996 in
Washington Co. Lorrie and John Shumate of Shady Valley, TN observed a
Tree Swallow at a bluebird nesting box along U.S. 58 highway between
Damascus and Abingdon in
Washington County, VA.

Scott Klopfer reported two Tree Swallows in Blacksburg, VA on 26 Feb 1997
which, at that time, was a new early arrival record for Montgomery &
Pulaski Counties.

If anyone has updates on early records for the Tree Swallow please post them
to Bristol Birds Net.

Let's go birding.....
