Today while biking on the Virginia Creeper Trail, I heard a Swainson's warbler singing (seew seew seee SISTerville). The location was between mile markers seven and six, where the trail runs parallel to the Middle Fork Holston River. This was my first in about seven years--the last one heard was on Beaverdam creek, between Shady Valley and Damascus (With Wallace Coffey). Encountered lots of other birds including a Cooper's hawk and some Acadian flycatchers. The section between Alvarado Station and Watauga road, about nine miles round trip, is a great place for biking, birds, blooms, and solitude. Ron Harrington Bristol, VA
