Fellow Birders & Friends: In case you haven't heard, the 17th Annual South Holston Lake and River Cleanup is this Saturday, August 8, 2009. So if you have planned a day of birding, or would just like to use this as an "excuse" to get out to the lake or river, come join hundreds of others who will working to make our "birding environment" a little more beautiful and safer for the birds, fish and other wildlife. Registration begins at 8:00 A.M. at the following sites: Observation Knob (Lake cleanup headquarters), Highway 421 Ramp, Little Oak Ramp, Lake View Dock, Sportsman's Boat Dock, Washington County Park Ramp, Avens Bridge Ramp, Old Alvarado Station, the Weir Dam (River cleanup headquarters), and the Boardwalk in Bluff City. The cleanup celebration party will be held from 3:30-6:00 at the Observation Knob Pavilion. Each participant who collects 3 or more bags of litter will be given a wristband that can be turned in for a free Tee-shirt and admission to the celebration which includes good food, live music, and door prizes.
