Hello Bristol Birders =20 This morning (7/20/02) while birding at Steele Creek Park, Bristol, TN I = recorded 38 species of birds including the following highlights: Loggerhead Shrike - in the evergreen within the grassland area. Kevin = Hamed told me this species had not been reported in the park for several = years. Yellow Throat Warbler - this was a life bird for me! American Kestrel - this bird is very rare in the park and also seen near = the grassland. Downy Woodpecker - this particular specimen was banded. Seen on suet = feeder by Nature Center. Wood Duck - juvenile just off the beach. Red-eyed Vireo - finally got to SEE one of these in the park! Indigo Bunting - Singing in the evergreen after the Shrike had left. Ruby-throated Hummingbird - warding off intruders of the mid-heights of = the grassland. Also, on 7/12/02 I saw an American Woodcock in the woods behind the = hole #1 golf green. The trail was loud with Wood Thrush calls and I = picked up my first Blue-gray Gnatcatcher in the park on the cart path = between golf holes #2 and #3. ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
