September 11, 2011 Cocke County: Dutch Bottoms (DB), Rankin Bottoms (RB) Good flying weather the last couple of days has emptied Rankin of most of the shorebirds seen earlier in the week. In addition, the water level is back up, covering enough of the gravel roadbed to prevent travel southward to the gate at the end of the road. Nonetheless, patient birding produced some nice finds this afternoon-- Double-crested Cormorant (56 DB, RB) Great Egret (146 DB, RB) Black-crowned Night-Heron (2 RB) Osprey (DB) Semipalmated Plover (16 RB) Greater Yellowlegs (RB) Semipalmated Sandpiper (23 RB) Least Sandpiper (3 RB) White-rumped Sandpiper (RB) Baird's Sandpiper (3 RB) Pectoral Sandpiper (2 RB) Laughing Gull (3 DB) Ring-billed Gull (122 DB) Lesser Black-backed Gull (DB) Caspian Tern (DB) Don Miller Greeneville, Greene Co., TN
