Area Birders, Today, 9/23/03, Ed Caudill of the Buchanan County Bird Club and I, Roger Mayhorn, birded a reclaimed strip site on Smith Branch here in Buchanan County. The highlight of the day was a SEDGE WREN, a rare bird for the county. This is only the second recorded sighting of this species here. Moments after seeing the Sedge Wren and numerous PALM WARBLERS, a Black Bear came ambling out of the Autumn Olive bushes toward us. Fortunately it was some distance away and decided to change course before getting too close. I managed to get photos of both the wren and the bear. I apologize for the quality of the photos, as the wren was backlit and the bear was some distance away. However, if you want to take a look you can see them at http://www.bcplnet.org/birdclub/gallery/Sedge.htm Enjoy the birds, Roger Mayhorn Grundy, VA ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
