Yesterday (Sep 29) Peter Range and I spent a delightful morning birding in
Shady Valley with 4 other members of the Kingsport Bird group. Our stop at
Schoolhouse Springs (Bog) was very productive as we picked up eleven species of
warblers which included: Tennessee, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green,
Cape May, Magnolia, Bay-breasted, Chestnut-sided, Blackpoll, Yellow-rump,
Yellow-throated and Redstart. We also found 3 species of Vireo's including:
Philadelphia, Red-eye and Blue-headed. The bog continued to be full of Cedar
Waxwings which we first located last Sat. during the Elizabethton TOS chapters
fall count. An excellent place for birds especially during migration.
We also birded Orchard Bog but very few birds were found there but we did have
a Peregrin Falcon fly by.
