I enjoyed a good look at a male Scarlet Tanager, which was singing from a wild cherry tree as I did some gardening at home on Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, on Monday evening, June 1. It's not all that unexpected, except I have heard him singing persistently for about a week, usually when I was leaving each morning to go to work and lacking the time to look for him. It's actually my first actual sighting this year of this colorful bird and was a great way to welcome June. Bryan Stevens, Hampton, Carter Co., TN
