The Saltville Loop of Clinch Mountain Trail is posted with temporary signs so
that regional birders may use the trail until the grant monies come thru to
construct the "official" trail. The Town Manager, Jeff Smith, has promised to
keep the trail mowed perodically for our use. The trail heads up beside the
Dollar General store and runs behind the well field ponds. It loops back
around a gravel lane to Lake Drive. Birders walk back up Lake Drive (aka the
well
fields road) between the ponds to the Dollar General store. The trail is a
flat, easy walk. There is one fork in the trail which is posted to direct
birders to the left fork. Should you end up at the fitness trail, go back and
take
the other left fork!

Be sure to allow some extra time to visit the Museum of the Middle
Appalachias while in town.

Enjoy birding Saltville,
