[Bristol-Birds] Roan Mtn. Sunday, 05-04-03

Here is a list of some migrants and other interesting birds observed at Roan 
Mtn. today, Sunday, May 4, 2003.  The morning combined Bird and Wildflower 
Walk led by Jennifer Bauer and Larry McDaniel was at the Dave Miller 
Homestead in Roan Mtn. State Park.  The afternoon Butterfly Walk, which 
quickly became a "Things with Wings Walk", was led by myself at Hampton Creek 
Cove State Natural Area.

Sharp-shinned Hawk
Ruffed Grouse (drumming)
Black-billed Cuckoo (pair, found and photographed by Linda and Dexter Newman 
at Hampton Creek Cove, seen and heard at close range by whole party)
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Acadian Flycatcher
Least Flycatcher
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (several at Dave Miller Homestead, seen & heard singing)
Wood Thrush
Gray Catbird
Red-eyed Vireo
Ovenbird
Northern Parula
Black-and-White Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler
Black-throated Blue
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Golden-winged Warbler (heard singing at Hampton Creek Cove)
Hooded Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Scarlet Tanager
Indigo Bunting
Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Morning participants at Dave Miller Homestead included, among others, local 
bird club members Allan Trently, Rob Biller, Janet Brown, and Linda & Dexter 
Newman.  Afternoon participants at Hampton Creek Cove were Linda & Dexter 
Newman, and Bill Sullivan and Mary Kay.
