I spent a couple of hours out at the Red-shouldered Hawk nest on the greenbelt at Kingsport this morning. The hawks appear to be incubating or have very small babies. The female sat on the nest for the first hour I was there (around 8 -9 am) then the male called, the female flew off the nest, and the male quickly took her place on the nest. I've been watching these birds for a while and the male is noticebly smaller and more colorful than the female (more obvious when they perch side by side). I managed one shot of the male at the nest and I have forwarded this to Wallace Coffey to post on the photo site for the bristol bird club. The birds are not nervous at all and will often perch for a long time in relatively open areas where you can look to your hearts content. Also seen here today were two Yellow-crowned Night Herons near where they nested last year. Rick Rick Phillips Kingsport, Tennessee --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
