I made a lengthy visit to Grainger County yesterday, with brief stops in the 
Whitesburg-Russellville area of Hamblen County and at Cherokee Dam in Jefferson 
County. Highlights included: 

Northern Bobwhite (at Cherokee Dam tailwater area, Jefferson Co.) 

Double-crested Cormorant (61 (mostly adults) on Cherokee Lake in Grainger Co.) 

Great Egret (7 at and in the vicinity of Cherokee Lake, Grainger Co.) 

Cooper's Hawk (adult in Russellville, Hamblen Co.) 
Red-shouldered Hawk (2 at Buffalo Springs Wildlife Management Area, Grainger 
Co.) 
Broad-winged Hawk (on Poor Valley Road, Grainger Co.) 

Eurasian Collared-Dove (1 near West Greene High School in Greene Co., 1 on Hwy. 
375 about a half mile northeast of German Creek Marina in Grainger Co.) 

Yellow-billed Cuckoo (7, Grainger Co.) 

Acadian Flycatcher (7, Grainger Co.) 

Cliff Swallow (4 at German Creek Marina in Grainger Co.; 6 in Hamblen Co.; 2 in 
Jefferson Co.) 

Yellow-throated Vireo (2, Grainger Co.) 
Blue-headed Vireo (4, Grainger Co.) 

Northern Parula (Grainger Co.) 
Yellow-throated Warbler (Poor Valley Rd., Grainger Co.) 

Summer Tanager (Game Farm Rd., Grainger Co.) 

Savannah Sparrow (3 singing males on Ralph-Ray Rd., Hamblen Co.) 
Grasshopper Sparrow (1 in Grainger Co.; 3 in Hamblen Co.)
