Area Birders, I was gone most of the day and didn't get to bird this morning. When I got home I had a message from the fellow who runs the Mountaintop Golf Course. He said a flock of wild geese had landed on the course. The course is only a 2 minute drive so I drove out, hoping for a flock of Snow Geese. They were Canadas instead, but geese of any species are uncommon in our county, so it was nice to see the flock of 11 along with 9 Wild Turkeys feeding. The rain kept falling, but for an hour or so this evening the rain from Isidore let up and I headed outdoors again. There was a bit of fog, but I was lucky and found 27 species around the yard. The most interesting birds were 1immature male Redstart, 1 male Hooded Warbler, 1 Magnolia, 1 Tennessee, 8 Scarlet Tanagers, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 1 Wood Thrush, 2 Gray Catbirds, 1 Brown Thrasher, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker, 1 Northern Mockingbird ( another bird that isn't common in Buchanan County), and 2 more Wild Turkeys. In addition to the birds I saw 2 Chipmunks, 1 Eastern Cottontail, 2 Eastern Gray Squirrels and 2 Woodchucks. Enjoy the birds, and animals, Roger Mayhorn Grundy, VA ************************************************* BRISTOL BIRDS NET LIST This is a regional birding list sponsored by the Bristol Bird Club to facilitate communications between birders and bird clubs of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
