Greene County;
Jefferson County: Cherokee Lake (CL), Mossy Creek Wildlife Viewing Area
(MCWVA), and other sites in the Jefferson City area;
Grainger County: Cherokee Lake (CL), Greenlee Campground (GC), and
nearby areas
I found no loons, grebes, or ducks on Cherokee Lake. This kind of
no-show seems to be a fairly typical thing on warm winter days.
Nonetheless, several notables put in an appearance--
Gadwall (MCWVA);
American Black Duck (2 MCWVA);
Mallard (126 Jefferson County);
Green-winged Teal (MCWVA);
Northern Harrier (Greene County);
Red-shouldered Hawk (Highway 348 in Beulah community, Greene County; an
adult bird carrying what appeared to be an adult rabbit from the middle
of the road to the shoulder);
American Coot (MCWVA);
Bonaparte's Gull (1275+--725+ Grainger County (CL), 550+ Jefferson
County (CL));
Ring-billed Gull (931+--921+ Grainger County, 10 Jefferson County);
Eurasian Collared-Dove (2 adjacent to West Greene High School (Greene
County));
House Wren (Tusculum area, Greene County);
American Pipit (4 Grainger County);
Pine Warbler (Grainger County (GC));
Chipping Sparrow (3 Grainger County (GC));
Savannah Sparrow (5 Jefferson County);
White-crowned Sparrow (2 Jefferson County).
