Today at 5:30 PM I stopped by Middlebrook lake in Bristol TN. There was a
Pied-billed Grebe alone on the side of the lake nearest the street. This is
a new bird for me. As I slowed my car to sneak a photo from the window, the
Grebe submerged for what seemed like an eternity, then surfaced head-only to
check on me. I was not sure it was the head at first, then he/she surfaced
fully and repeated the same submerge/partially re-emerge maneuver again. I
thought it was fascinating behavior for a bird.
