POSTPONE DUE TO WEATHER Bristol Bird Club's Saturday, February 18th, 2006 Burke's Garden Golden Eagle Field Trip Friday Night: A slight chance of snow after 3am. Increasing clouds, with a low near 24. North wind between 5 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly between 9am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high around 27. North wind between 8 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. After careful checks of the weather outlook for Tazewell County and Burke's Garden we have decided to postpone Saturday's BBC trip to Burke's Garden. A telephone call was made to Burke's Garden General Store and the operator advised that weather conditions are expected to be bad Saturday. She said that, due to the high elevation of the valley (3000+ feet) and the steep road over the mountain into the valley, Burke's Garden almost always gets snowfall even when little to no accumulations is expected in nearby areas of the county. She noted that Friday's rainfall plus the freeze will make conditions dangerous on the mountain. She advised that we postpone the trip. I telephoned Dave Worley and he said the weather report and expected conditions are such that he agrees. If conditions are good enough that the trip can be rescheduled, you will be notified.
