Sunday Sept. 1

While taking some friends to see the mountains this Sunday afternoon,
on Whitetop Mtn, VA (at far end of the top loop) we spotted an Olive-
sided Flycatcher. We watch the bird for about 30 to 45 minutes doing
the typical flycatcher performance of sitting still for long periods
of time then flying out to catch an insect then returning to its perch.
We also had 3 migrating Sharp-shinned Hawks fly by. On the trip off
the mountain near Troutdale we had approximately 15 Nighthawks fly by.
All in all a good birding day even though I was just showing off our
beautiful mountains to some out of state friends.
