Tues. Nov. 19, 2002
Boone Dam and Overlook
Sullivan Co., TN

Mid to late afternoon Tuesday I saw the following birds on Boone Lake:

55 Common Loons
5 Double-crested Cormorants
2 Great Blue Herons
6 Red-breasted Mergansers
30+ Bonaparte's Gulls
60+ Ring-billed Gulls

The Mergansers were off to themselves in a small knot, mostly sleeping. The
loons were together, but did not seem to be diving very much. The gulls were
either on the sand bar near the beach below the overlook, or flying over the
tailwaters that were high ( I assumed the generators were running and the
gulls were looking for fish soup).
