Jones is also the first occupant of the new William and Nancy Klamm Endowed Chair of Ornithology. Jones earned his Ph.D. in ecology, evolution and behavior at the University of Minnesota. His dissertation was on the "Evolutionary History of Philippine Birds." Jones is responsible for the Museum's collection of avian fauna, which consists of approximately 35,000 study skins and 4,000 egg sets from the Ohio region and western North America as well as approximately 1,000 osteological specimens from Ohio. He is also responsible for specimen acquisition and preservation, maintenance of specimen records, and will conduct research in his area of interest and expertise with results published in scientific journals or scholarly books, monographs, etc. His other tasks include providing various services to the scientific community, the media, the Museum's exhibitions and education divisions as well as the public at large. Dr. Brian Redmond, Museum director of Science and curator and head of the Archaeology Department, said, "Jones is young, personable and enthusiastic with outstanding credentials and scientific experience that will be a real asset to the Museum. One of his goals is to establish the Museum as a regional birding center." The Nancy and William Klamm Endowed Chair of Ornithology was established in memory of these two passionate birders and their many accomplishments in the field as well as their support of the Museum. Jones has accumulated professional experience as a teacher and researcher, co-authored articles in peer-reviewed publications and authored articles published in Minnesota Birding, Wilderness News and other magazines. He has given scientific presentations and guest lectures, served as a mentor and earned numerous awards for scholarship. As a teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota, Jones taught courses in Ornithology, Evolution, Field Ornithology and General Zoology. His museum experience includes serving as a curatorial assistant at the Bell Museum of Natural History in MN and adjunct research associate with the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History. Jones also served as a field assistant with National Resources Research Institute, Duluth, MN, and field assistant with Missouri Ozarks Forest Experiment Project, Ellington, MO, and naturalist of Steel Creek Park in Bristol, TN. The latter three positions involved breeding bird surveys, spot mapping and mist netting. In addition, he participated in a two-month tropical biology field course in Costa Rica and headed bird-watching field trips in Tennessee, Minnesota and North Dakota.
