Mary Ann and I came upon a family of five eastern kingbirds. We were at the Salt Ponds in Saltville in Smyth County, VA. All four little ones would open their mouths wide as mama flew close. But we never saw her feed more than one per flight in. The single adult (assumed female) was working hard and would stay away only briefly. It seemed the catching of any single morsel no matter how small was reason to return to the tree and feed. The red-eyed vireo was in northeast Tennessee.
