Tom McNeil, JT McNeil, Don Holt, and Mike Poe enjoyed hanging out with the
TWO Laughing Gulls on the Outer Bank this evening between 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
Curtain calls were also answered by the two Pied-billed and two Eared Grebes,
two
Great Blue Herons (displaying at the end of the Outer Bank, with wings
drooped low to the sides and heads pointed up, one approached slowly, then
leaped
over the other), three Forster's Terns, and a Spotted Sandpiper. Newcomers
included one unidentified Tern species (a bit smaller, a bit darker dorsally,
and
faster wingbeat than Forsters), and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Strange lighting,
subtly and constantly changing, made for a beautiful evening as we enjoyed the
birds.
