The committee planning the spring Migratory Birding Festival, to be held on the Clinch Mountain Trail Loop of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail at Saltville, is busy getting details together. They are planning for May 12, 13, & 14. 2006 -- HOLD THAT DATE !!! The Clinch Mountain Trail Loop of the Virginia Birding Trail includes parts of four counties, Washington, Tazewell, Russell and Smyth. The birding trail starts at Va. Rt. 16 in Marion at Hungry Mother State Park and goes to Saltville, Clinch Mountain Wildlife Management Area and ends at Hayter Gap and Raven Ridge. The planning committe has made a real effort to set dates that would not overlap this year with the Bristol Bird Club's spring birding weekend festival at Natural Tunnel State Park in Scott County (May 19-20-21-22, 2006). The Clinch Mountain Trail Loop event committee hopes to get underway Friday night with an owl prowl at Hungry Mother State Park and have various events/walks on Saturday and Sunday. Mark your calendar right now and don't let May 12-13-14 get away from you. Some of you will have to make some decisions because this is also the same weekend as the Mount Rogers Naturalist Rally at Konnarock, VA north of Damascus. For myself, I plan to attend the Friday night kickoff dinner and program of the Mount Rogers Naturalist Rally and then be at the Migratory Bird Festival on the Clinch Mountain Trail Loop all day Saturday and probably Sunday. Let's go birding..... Wallace Coffey Bristol, TN
