Bob Quillen and I spent about six hours at the Mendota Fire Tower today, September 10. The weather was mostly sunny with a few clouds scattered about, with a steady breeze out of the East during the morning. The going was slow for the hawks: Broad-winged Hawk: 23 Sharp-shinned Hawk: 2 We also saw three "local" Common Ravens, three "local" Red-tailed Hawks, and a Red-headed Woodpecker. I will not be at the site tomorrow, September 11. If you go, send me your tally. Marion Finucane will be keeping the count on Sunday, September 12. I will be back on duty Monday. Hawk Fever. Catch it.
