Mendota Hawk Watch report for 9/17 and 9/18, 2006 Sunday, September 17, 2006: The hawks were really moving today. Large numbers were going by when the first observers arrived at 10:00 a.m. There were folks on duty from then until after 6:15 p.m. Observers included Larry McDaniel (Compiler), Rob Biller, John Clonci, Ken Turner, Tom Hunter, Phil Shelton, Amber Groseclose, Lindsay Hatenpach, Lindsay Abiovness, Bob Riggs, and Don Large. Monday, September 18, 2006: We had coverage at the site from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The first Broad-winged hawk came by the tower at 10:00 a.m. There was a fairly steady flow of small numbers of hawks all day until 5:00 p.m., at which time they seemed to "shut down" for the day as the clouds ahead of the next cold front were moving in from the West. The best hour was 4-5 p.m. with 61 hawks. Those helping today included Tom Parker, Ron Harrington (Compiler), Bob Quillen, Tom Hunter, Bob Riggs, John and Carolyn Martin, and Don Large. The Am. Bald Eagle was an immature.
