Mendota Hawk Watch report for 9/17 and 9/18, 2006

Sunday, September 17, 2006: The hawks were really moving today. Large numbers
were going by when the first observers arrived at 10:00 a.m. There were folks
on duty from then until after 6:15 p.m. Observers included Larry McDaniel
(Compiler), Rob Biller, John Clonci, Ken Turner, Tom Hunter, Phil Shelton,
Amber
Groseclose, Lindsay Hatenpach, Lindsay Abiovness, Bob Riggs, and Don Large.

Monday, September 18, 2006: We had coverage at the site from 9:00 a.m. until
6:00 p.m. The first Broad-winged hawk came by the tower at 10:00 a.m. There
was a fairly steady flow of small numbers of hawks all day until 5:00 p.m., at
which time they seemed to "shut down" for the day as the clouds ahead of the
next cold front were moving in from the West. The best hour was 4-5 p.m. with
61
hawks. Those helping today included Tom Parker, Ron Harrington (Compiler),
Bob Quillen, Tom Hunter, Bob Riggs, John and Carolyn Martin, and Don Large. The
Am. Bald Eagle was an immature. We also saw two Double-crested Cormorants at
5:00 p.m.
