Mendota Hawk Watch report for 9/16/06 Finally, after several frustrating, slow days, the hawks are now arriving in good numbers. Rob Biller and Larry McDaniel were at the tower from 9:40 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. The morning was relatively slow and there was a bright sky, making it difficult to spot the birds. However, as scattered clouds drifted in providing some backdrop, the numbers increased significantly towards evening, with 373 Broad-winged hawks after 6:00 p.m. 9/16 YTD Broad-winged Hawk: 819 1201 Osprey: 0 8 Cooper's Hawk: 3 7 Northern Harrier: 0 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk: 2 7 Am.
