Janice Martin to lead club.
Members of the Bristol Bird Club elected a team
of leaders to carry the club into the future and
turned to Janice Martin, Tuesday evening, as a
birder of long tenure and proven success to
provide stability, knowledge and wisdom.
She served two terms as the club's top officer
from 1999 thru 2001. During that time she
guided the club thru its 50th Anniversary and
a State TOS Annual Spring meeting at Bristol
in 2000. She also served the club as Treasurer
for 11 years and managed it thru its best-ever
financial times, seeing revenues of many
thousands of dollars and keeping tabs on the
club's most expensive projects including fund
raising and publication for the Birds of Northeast
Tennessee 2n edition book publication as well
as the joint TOS/VSO State Meeting at Johnson
City in 2013. More recently she has served the
Russell County Bird Club as president and is
currently Secretary/Treasurer of that club. She is
also an active member of the Buchanan County
Bird Club.
Wallace Coffey, a member of the club since
1959, returns to an elected leadership office
as 2nd Vice-President.
Nancy McPeak, a birder in the Bristol area for
more than 50 years but a new-comer to BBC,
accepted a nomination from the floor and was
elected to the office of Treasurer when it was
learned that Barney Brehl of Kinsport had
changed his mind after accepting an invitation
from the nominating committee as BBC Treasurer.
Faye Wagers was re-elected to the office of
Secretary and Kevin Blaylock was re-elected to
the office of 1st Vice President.
The new officers take office at the club's
June 27 picnic scheduled to be held at 3:30 p.m.
at the Steele Creek Park Civitan Club Shelter
where it has been held for many years.
Blaylock presided over the May 19, 2015
meeting in the absence of the President.
Members were told that a proposal to change
the meats from hot dogs and hamburgers to
barbeque was more economical and less labor
intensive. It passed on a voice vote.
The club voted unanimously to again sponsor
a field trip to South America as part of its
well-received Rainforest Adventure field trips
Into Central and South America which began
In 2006.
Blaylock also reported that 19 damaged copies
of the Birds Of Northeast Tennessee 2nd edition
had been delivered to Steele Creek Park Nature
Center and they staff was appreciative for the gift
from the club.
John Moyle reported that eight (8) club members
went on the BBC recent field trip to Seven Islands
State Birding Park and had 54 species. He said
the next field trip will be to Breaks Interstate
Park and more details will be announced soon.
Bill Grigsby and Wallace Coffey presented the
program which included about 30 minutes from
the movie "A Century of Birds" which was the
main 90-minute movie which was the
banquet program at the recent 100th Anniversary
Celebration TOS State Meeting held at Montgomery
State Park. Grigsby showed the movie portion and
Coffey gave a brief report about the meeting and
eight BBC members who attended. He also told
about how the movie was produced. He was
among a small group of statewide members
still active in TOS who attended the 50th
Anniversary meeting of TOS at Nashville in 1965.
