Members of the Bristol Bird Club invite you to a homecoming reception for Rick Knight, who has recently been involved in the Pear River search for the most rare Ivory-billed Woodpecker, one of the most historic bird searches in American history. The talk will be held Tuesday, March 19. It will be followed by a color slide presentation about the search and Knight's involvement. It is his first such talk presented to the public. The Bristol Bird Club meets at 7:30 p.m. (Tues. March 19), at the ETSU Bristol Center on the Volunteer Parkway in Bristol, TN near Chaco's. You turn between the soft cloth car wash and the former KFC restaurant building. Drive straight up the hills to the parking lot with the globed lights. Go in the front door and down the hallway to the right. A sign will show the way. Rick was a member of the Zeiss team that searched for 30 good-weather days in the swamps at the Pearl River in Louisiana. It was coordinated by the famous Louisiana State University Museum of Natural Science and assisted by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. Several of our members are hard at work preparing a special cake, beverages, snacks and great reception and program. The program will follow the brief reception and will allow those who have to drive some distance to be home at a reasonable hour. This is a really special opportunity to hear and see from one of our birders who has been involved in the largest media-covered bird activity ever in America. The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, London Times, CBS News, U.S.A. Today and many hundreds of other news media covered and reported on the event during January and February of this year. Rick was one of about six or seven persons to take part in this search. Hope to see you there. E-mail Wallace Coffey at jwcoffey@xxxxxxxxxx if you need information or assistance.
