The Herndon Bird Club is involved several field trips and the 5-county
Fall bird count in September.
Birding field trips to be led by Herndon Bird Club members at the Fall
Roan Mountain Naturalist Rally:
These three field trips will meet and begin from the field on the left
of Hwy 143 before the cabins.
Saturday, Sept. 12: 7:00 a.m. Early Bird Trip--to area near the parking
field
Saturday, Sept. 12: 8:30 a.m. Birding trip--around Picnic shelter #1
and other state park spots, on up to Carver's Gap
Sunday, Sept. 13: 8:30 a.m Birding trip--up to Carver's Gap and
other areas back to the state park.
Field trip participation is free for members of the Friends of Roan
Mountain (dues= $15 per year). Participation fee for non-members is
$5. (see Naturalists' Rally Registration Form at www.friendsofroanmtn.org)
Herndon Bird Club "Warbler Warm-up" field trip on Saturday, Sept. 19 to
Carver's Gap. Target arrival time to Carver's Gap is 7:30 a.m. to get a
good early start on viewing migrants coming into and around the Gap.
Members will bird around the Gap probably until about 11 a.m. and work
their way down toward Roan Mountain village for lunch when hungry (or if
the weather drives us off the gap). If you would like to carpool from
Johnson City, please let me know, and we can arrange to meet and go
together.
Fall 5-county Bird Count Saturday, Sept. 26. Group leaders, areas, and
current participants will be listed in a separate forthcoming email.
