The Herndon Bird Club will conduct its third and last nightjar survey this evening (Monday, June 9) in the Fish Springs area. Meet ready to leave from the Primo's Restaurant parking lot in Elizabethton at 8:30 p.m. If you would like to join participants for dinner before the survey, meet at Primo's at 7:30 to eat. Leaders are Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud. Participants will carpool because parking is limited at the counting stops.

The survey will begin after 9 p.m. and will consist of 10 stops, one mile apart, where the participants count nightjar calls heard for a six-minute period at each stop. The route is already defined and the same route is used each year. Because of the number of stops and time and distance involved, the survey will take at least an hour and a half, so realistically, if you participate, you won't get back to Primo's until midnight.
