This Saturday, November 23, the Herndon Bird Club will have its field trip to waterfowl areas in Sullivan County. Meet at the Weir Dam on the South Holston River at 8:00 a.m. There will be some hiking around Osceola Island and observations from the South Holston Lake Dam overlook nearby. Participants will have lunch at a restaurant in the area and continue with birding during part of the afternoon at Musick's Campground and Middlebrook Lake. Take in as much of the trip as you like. The weather predictions for the day, admittedly, aren't the best--22F in the morning, high of 49F and 40% probability of precipitation during the morning sometime. Bring some warm clothes, as it can be windy at the Dam overlook and at Musick's Campground. The next club meeting is Tuesday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Science Building at Milligan College in Elizabethton. Come up the entry road into the College, turn right just past the Gregory Center (on the right) into the parking lot. The Science Building is straight ahead as you come into the parking lot. The meeting will be in a room on the right just as you enter the Science Building. The program presentation will be given by club treasurer Kim Stroud on the birding she and Joe McGuiness did on a trip to California last May. They went from San Francisco to Santa Cruz to Monterey to Yosemite and back to San Francisco. Included on the agenda for the December meeting are the planning of the two Club Christmas counts: Elizabethton Count on Saturday, December 14 and Roan Mountain Count on Sunday, December 15, and the planning of the Christmas Party. Kim's presentation will precede the Christmas count and party planning. These Christmas counts will be compiled at the Christmas Party. Club calendars should be available at the meeting. Prior to the meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3, some members will meet at Bellacino's Italian Restaurant on South Roan St. (Food City Parking Lot) in Johnson City around 5:30 p.m. to eat and socialize before the meeting. ALL are INVITED and WELCOME to the meeting and to Bellacino's. If you have any questions about the field trip or the December meeting, please feel free to send me email or call. Roy Knispel, Pres.
