Hello birders -

This morning at Roan Mountain, I found a fledgling Hermit Thrush,
attended to by both parents, that couldn't have been out of the nest
for more than a day or two. It had hardly any tail feathers at all,
was heavily spotted, and could barely fly. This was on the Appalachian
Trail heading towards Round Bald from Carver's Gap, in the first
Spruce stand that you come to (within shouting distance of the parking
lot at the Gap).

I was surprised that they nested this early up on Roan, and that only
one fledgling was with them.
